During the school years, he studied Taijiquan techniques and weapons under the guidance of Mr. Zhao Weimin, a seventh-dan master of Chinese martial arts and an inheritor of the Chen-style Hong-style Taijiquan. He once won the championships in the Taijiquan routine and in the Tai Chi push-hands competition (by weight class) at the First Martial Arts Exchange Conference among Universities in Jinan. He also won the championship in the Chen-style Taijiquan event at the International Shaolin Martial Arts Qigong Competition in Bremen, Germany.
