On January 18, 1955, the Shandong Provincial People's Government approved the Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau to prepare for the establishment of "Jinan Worker Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau".

In June 1956, the "Jinan Worker Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau" was completed on the west section of Jingshi Road in Jinan City. Meanwhile, in accordance with the notice from the Ministry of Labour unifying the names of technical schools, it was renamed the "Worker Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau" and officially opened on September 1.

In August 1958, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Committee, the "Worker Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau" was transformed into a secondary specialized school and renamed the "Machine Manufacturing School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau".

On July 23, 1962, with the approval of the Ministry of Labour, "Machine Manufacturing School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau" was renamed "Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department".

On January 21, 1965, the Shandong Provincial Establishment Commission approved the change of name to "Part-time Work-study Secondary Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department".

On April 23, 1966, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial Establishment Commission, "Part-time Work-study Secondary Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department" was renamed "Part-time Work-study Mechanical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department", serving as a headquarters with nine branches under the Labour Bureaus in Jinan, Qingdao, Zibo, Yantai, Weihai, Weifang, Dezhou, Liaocheng, and Jining.

On March 15, 1969, the Shandong Provincial Revolutionary Committee decided to transfer the leadership of "Part-time Work-study Mechanical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department" and its nine branches to the respective municipal and regional revolutionary committees.

On November 7, 1969, the Jinan Revolutionary Committee decided to rename "Part-time Work-study Mechanical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Department" as "Jinan Sixth Machine Tool Plant".

On May 15, 1978, the Shandong Provincial Revolutionary Committee decided to resume school operations, renaming "Jinan Sixth Machine Tool Plant" as "Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau", which was directly led by the Provincial Labour Bureau.

On February 16, 1979, the State General Administration of Labour and the Ministry of Education jointly notified the decision to expand "Technical School of Shandong Provincial Labour Bureau" to establish "Shandong Technical Teachers College" (undergraduate level, construction ceased in 1985).

On April 14, 1990, with the consent of the Ministry of Labour and the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, a pilot project for "Shandong Senior Technical School" was approved.

On June 8, 2000, the Shandong Provincial People's Government approved the renaming of "Shandong Senior Technical School" to "Shandong Technical College" (technical education).

On December 26, 2000, the Shandong Provincial People's Government approved the merger of "Shandong Technical College" and "Shandong Light Industry Technical School" to form "Shandong Vocational College of Labour and
Technology" (higher vocational education),
while retaining the name "Shandong Technical College" (technical education).

On August 6, 2004, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, the East Campus of the college (formerly Shandong Light Industry Technical School) was separated and rebuilt as "Shandong Technician College" (technical education).

On May 27, 2006, in order to overcome the institutional obstacles to continuing technical education, the college resumed using the brand "Shandong Senior Technical School" with the consent of the Shandong Labour and Social Security Department.

On September 30, 2012, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, the college added the signboard of "Shandong Labor Technician College", and technical education recruitment was conducted under this name.
